For the couple who truly appreciates fine linen and silverware, formal weddings are a thing of refinement and elegance. A formal wedding can be great amounts of fun, it is just important to keep in mind that at this event, proper manners and etiquette are a must.

The Dress Code:This is the perfect setting for a long flowing wedding gown in shades of white or off-white, delicately embroidered with pearls and other finery, ending with a beautiful train. The bridesmaids should all be clad in the same full length dress, with matching accessories. For the gentlemen, a black tuxedo is proper attire for the groom as well as his men of honor. Guests will be expected to dress appropriately, women in floor length dresses and men in suits and ties. The Invitations:Let the invitations set the tone for your wedding. Engraved invitations with gold lettering on embossed stationery are the pinnacle of elegance and send a clear message to your guests that this is a formal event. The Location:Hotel ball rooms and high-end reception halls are lovely places to have a formal wedding reception. Make sure that the reception hall has enough matching china and silverware to accommodate your entire party. Formal weddings and receptions are best kept indoors, one of the many reasons for this being that women's formal footwear does not bode well with outdoor activities. If you want a chance to get outdoors, choose a reception hall that has a terrace. If you absolutely want to be out in the open, why not have your wedding on a cruise ship? Many boats have very beautiful dinning rooms and can accommodate fairly large wedding parties. The Flowers and Centrepieces:In the spirit of elegance, a tall vase with long stem tulips, lilies or roses is the incarnation of elegance when complimented by 24 inch tapered candles. If you choose a high centerpiece, make sure it is narrow so it does not obstruct the view of the people at the table. You will also want to keep everything on the table in the same colour to add an air of sophistication and simplicity to the ensemble. The Menu:Give your event an extra touch of class by starting the reception with a glass of champagne. For the food, choose beautiful dishes full of colour and exotic flavours. With Asian cuisine being both healthy and tantalizing, let your guests be tempted by Sushi as an entree. You can then choose to continue with more Asian delights or return to something more traditional like chicken Kiev, boeuf bourguignon and grilled salmon steaks. A word of caution, if you are intending to have peanut sauce or seafood on the menu, remember to inquire about allergies among your guests.Wedding favours:Keeping with the idea of refinement, engraved bells that the guest can ring when requesting the newlyweds to kiss make wonderful mementos. In the spirit of honouring tradition, white almond candies wrapped in tulle and tied with personalised ribbons are still a classic. It is said that if the single guests put the candies under their pillow, they will dream of their true love that night. We recommend:For an added touch of refinement, string quartets and chamber music during the ceremony and meal make a lovely addition to any formal weddingFor more great ideas, visit our galleria resource centre at 4030 St. Ambroise, suite 107, Montreal or call us for a personal appointment at 514 487-3456. |
